The Sun Moon Lake Cycling, Music, and Fireworks Festival takes place over the course of around two months in the fall and consists of multiple events aimed at promoting Sun Moon Lake. The Yunlin International Puppet Theatre Festival takes place in the countryside of rural Yunlin, the home of Taiwanese puppetry. Celebrating over 100 years of history, the festival celebrates local cultural heritage while supporting innovation in the puppet arts. Events include puppet theatre performances, workshops, and exhibitions. The festival also invites performing artists from around the world for performance and exchange.

The Amis People of Taiwan celebrate “Ilisin” once a year. Like our New Year it is an event that marks the end of one year and the beginning of the next, however, unlike Western New Year, it takes place during the mid-to-late summer. The Hualien County Government holds one Joint Aboriginal Harvest Festival every July where tourists and those curious about Amis tradition have the unique opportunity to observe and experience first-hand an “Ilisin”.

Putting themed balloons into the skies above the Luye’s grassy highlands every summer, the Taiwan International Balloon Festival is one of the island’s most family-oriented festivals.

Every morning cute and colorful balloons piloted by teams from across the world take off and allow passengers a birds-eye-view of the magnificent East Rift Valley Scenic Area, and sunrise for those who are lucky.

The Taipei International Dragon Boat Championships are held in conjunction with the Dragon Boat Festival, and celerate one of the main activities during Dragon Boat Festival, dragon boat racing. For two days, spectators gather to view teams of powerful rowers racing against one another down the Keelung River.

In the summer, the Penghu International Fireworks Festival brings additional flair to the islands and islets of the Penghu National Scenic Area by illuminating the sky with high-altitude fireworks, drones and lanterns. Relax to a seaside fireworks after a day filled with sunbathing on pristine sandy beaches, and snorkeling through shallow coral reefs.

The Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is a multi-day pilgrimage in which an effigy of Mazu, Taiwan’s most important sea goddess and female deity, is carried by believers throughout Western Taiwan visiting various temples along the way. One of the largest religious events in the world, the celebration was identified as one of the world's three major religious festivals by the Discovery Channel. Anyone is welcome to join the pilgrimage, and supporters often provide refreshments and snacks for free to those marching as they pass by.

The 2023 Taiwan International Festival of Arts will host performing artists from Taiwan, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, the United States, South Korea, and Australia, among other countries for a total of 129 performances of 19 productions.

These year’s works will center on the themes of fake news, gender awareness, and conflict among other social issues. The festival will also feature a reprisal performance of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s “Legacy”, with the collaboration having special significance for being the 50th anniversary of Cloud Gate’s founding.

During the Wuling Farm Cherry Blossom Festival, Wuling Farm becomes so popular that entrance via private automobile is limited to those who book accommodation within the farm. Luckily, public busses are available from multiple stations in Taipei and Yilan. Private tours are also available but considerably more expensive.

The Lantern Festival has its roots in Chinese tradition, and traditionally marks the end of Lunar New Years celebrations. This year’s 2023 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei event will run for two weeks and feature multi-story art installations, high-tech lanterns, drone and fireworks shows, and folk performances. All lantern festival venues are conveniently to access by MRT.
